Marple is the home of a thriving scouting community with three Beaver colonies, three Cub packs, two Scout Troops, two Explorer Groups and a Network Unit.

Our home for the week - Summer Camp '14

Our Mission

Scouting exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.

Our Values

As Scouts we are guided by these five values:
Integrity, Respect, Care, Belief and Co-operation.

Our Sections

Find the right section, and then read more on how to join here.

Beavers is for 6 to 8 year olds.

There are three Beaver colonies in Marple – Etherow Beavers (Monday), Brabyns Beavers (Tuesday), and Lyme Beavers (Wednesday) – typically meeting from 18.15 to 19.15 at the Scout Hut.

Beavers is heavily over-subscribed, so we recommend joining the waiting list as early as possible.

Cubs is for 8 to 10.5 year olds.

There are three Cub packs in Marple – Bradshaw (Monday), Carver (Wednesday), and Derby (Thursday) – typically meeting from 18.30 to 20.00 at the Scout Hut.

Cubs do all sorts of activities on top of their weekly meetings – from Swimming Galas and District Camps to the John Oldham Competition, 5-a-side, Sports Days and Athlete’s Badge Night.

Scouts is for 10.5 to 14 year olds.

There are two Scout troops in Marple – Kinder (Tuesday) and Cobden (Thursday) – typically meeting from 19.30 – 21.00 at the Scout Hut.

Whilst both troops run their own programme separately, there are many activities that they do together – with the annual Easter Camp and Summer Camp particular highlights, as well as Gang Show, joint walking days (and nights) and other ad hoc activities.

Explorers is for 14 to 18 year olds.

There are two Explorer groups in Marple – Marple Explorers (Monday) and Marple Coombs Explorers (Wednesday) – typically meeting from 20.00 – 22.00 at the Scout Hut.

Many of the activities the Explorers do are chosen by themselves, including Mountain Biking, Night Hikes, Climbing and other adventurous pursuits, and of course there are plenty of opportunities to get out camping too, with annual Easter and Summer Camps, as well as regular visits to Linnet Clough and Boarfold.

Network is for 18 to 25 year olds.

There is one Network group in Marple, though meetings tends to be seasonal, with many heading off to University but returning to Network when they are home in the holidays.

Network can often be seen playing darts or cards as well as organising visits to watch the local football and rugby teams, pub quizzes, etc. They are reknowned for having very big (and boisterous) campfires, and are a very welcoming bunch!

Leaders / Support Staff can be any age!

We are always in need of more leaders – whether that is in physically leading the actual nights for the Beavers / Cubs /Scouts / Explorers, or in taking on responsibilities with maintenance or admin roles – all are absolutely crucial in running a successful troop.
