Shooting / Coasteering

Booo. There are dull grey skies and it’s switching between heavy rain and just looking threatening to rain :(

We had heavy rain last night too, which curtailed our campfire somewhat, but everyone was dry overnight, and today is another BUMPER day: we’ve split into two groups, with half a day on-site playing with rifles (under supervision, obviously, and with the chance to win a KitKat chunky for hitting the Bullseye!), whilst the other group are busy jumping off rocks into the sea!

Here’s pics of a few of our sharp-shooters..!

Street Dance Videos

Judge these efforts for yourself. The dance teacher reckoned that Badworthy’s effort (also featuring explorer Richard Cross) was best, which has won them 10 points towards the patrol competition!

And you thought they couldn’t dance….!

Street Dance: The Final

The Scouts have been getting their freak on again! The video’s of all five groups’ efforts will follow (once we find a decent enough Internet connection)!

Homemade Pizza went down well, and the Scouts are currently out in the town, possibly buying you some ‘great’ presents…!

Kit inspection

The scouts’ efforts for kit inspection – not quite the military precision we were hoping for, but at least they seemed vaguely organized?!

And it’s a tearful train station farewell to Hoggy – have fun at Leeds Fest! The scouts are already missing your right-arm medium-fast swing bowling!?

Merry Woodmas!

It’s Woodmas Day on site in Torbay! Father Woodmas has delivered his traditional bundles of firewood, and the Scouts have been celebrating by eating Woodmas for breakfast! :)

Here’s our VIP patrol (the team who scored the most points yesterday) enjoying their ‘lucky-dip’ prize of a lie-in and breakfast cooked for them by the Leaders.

The Dance-off will take place at 2pm, and then we’re heading to the beach for a barbecue.

Tuesday Summary

Tuesday seems to have lasted a long time for the leaders - we were up at 6:30 for an early morning swim at the beach just a short run away and have been busy ever since.

A shift from the usual greasy breakfast to a healthier (and crucially faster) continental one saw us chopping up pineapples and grapefruits before the scouts had even woken up!

We were quick to get off site so that we could maximize time at Woodlands Leisure park - like a theme park but predominantly with slides rather than rollercoasters. The scouts were soon crashing into eachother in bumper-boats, sliding down waterslides in dinghys, and shooting eachother with foam balls.

Sadly the owl display was cancelled because of the poor weather, but that just meant that the scouts had even more free time to buy ice cream and slush puppies!

We finished off the park experience with a patrol competition on the Commando Assault Course, with the scouts happy to push the little boys and girls out of the way in order to get round as fast as possible on the cargo nets and balancing beams!

Curry on site was followed by a screening of Scout Camp the movie (which went straight to DVD for some reason?!)

Tomorrow should be a more relaxed day on site, with the leaders looking for any reason to set the scouts the ‘Traditional Birthday Challenge’! :)

Word on the Street with Crazy Will

Hello, I am an explorer and I’m going to tell YOU about the Camp so far.

I can’t tell you much about the journey there because I was asleep. But I do know that we stopped and had bacon sandwiches. I got sprayed with ketchup. When he got to camp we set up tents to sleep in.  Then we went to the beach and we swam in the sea. We also ate some more.

The second day we had breakfast and then went on a boat. There was something to do with potatoes on it. Then we went to Splashdown. A fun filled, watery place of magical adventure. It was wet and I had doughnuts.

Today we did lots of stuff. I had food and went into town. I didn’t spend much money apart from wasting it on claw machines. It cheated me so I kicked it. Afterwards we all waited for fish and chips. We waited for at least 8 hours before the food arrived. I ate it. Then the scouts went on a photo taking scavenger hunt. I saw one of the Chuckle brothers. After that we went to an amusement park and I saw someone be sick. It was fun. To finish the wonderfulness we witnessed a fireworks show that was shiny and explody. That was all.

Goodbye

                                                                                                     :-P

Funfair & Fireworks!

Fish and chips took a while to arrive – but then, we were ordering 37 portions…!

After a photo scavenger hunt of Torbay to learn the local area, we gave the Scouts a fiver to spend ON RIDES at the funfair (NO sweets or other junk!).

A few stomach-turning spins later, and it was time for the annual Tirbay regatta fireworks. They were good, but the Scouts said that Brabyns is better… Marple 1 Torbay 0!

Bedtime now – Woodlands theme park tomorrow…. Eeeek!

Beach Road

After free-time (/ a cricketing masterclass from the leaders), we headed to the beach for a splash around. General consensus was that the sea was warmer than yesterday – but doesn’t mean much…!

Now heading up the hill before we drive into Torbay for some of their famous Fish and Chips, a fairground, and some fireworks.

All Scouts having fun :)

Monday Morning

The day started with the usual cooked breakfast on open fires, and flag, but this was a special day for one of our scouts - James Argument is 11 today!

After completing the traditional summer camp birthday challenge he was rewarded with his present - a classy pirate outfit.

The main activity of morning was dancing - we got a street-dance instructor from Torbay to come in and teach them a few moves. Some got the hang of it sooner than others! She’s back on Weds to judge their dance efforts (a la x factor)

Torbay later for the fireworks… (and arcades, etc)
