BIG RUGBY MATCH

Its been a long time coming, but the Explorers finally got their wish for a Rugby match against the football-centric Network!

Matt Wilson (Explorer) has put together a completely one-sided account on the proceedings that saw the Explorers romp home to victory by 24 points to 10!

The Explorers led from start to finish, and just about deserved their victory in a good-spirited game with some lenient refereeing (Keith did a great job of keeping the game flowing whilst Network slowly started to learn the rules of the game!)

MARPLE'S CENTENARY NIGHT

We're one of the oldest Scout Groups in the World, and we're celebrating 100 years this year!

We've got big plans for making it a year to remember, which will culminate in a camp for all our members (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Network & Leaders) as well as a less-than-formal dinner / ceilidh for all those who have been connected with us in some way over the last 100 years.

SCOUTING SUNRISE

Over 40 of Marple Scouts' members (inluding explorers, scouts, leaders, and even a beaver!) watched the sun rise from Cobden Edge (The Cross) and celebrated 100 years of Scouting!

It was a long night / morning for all involved, with the Scouts grabbing at most an hours sleep before being woken up at 3 o clock in the morning to get kitted up and ready to go.

COBDEN TRIUMPH

Cobden ran out as Champions for the third consecutive year after a hard-bought Battle of Marple!

The victory (and another Yellow winners badge) saw Callum Hibbs and Michael Clifford complete their Golden circles on their uniform, with both having played and won twice before!

The grand finale of the Gruellinator was closer than many thought it would be after Kinder had lost out in the events to gift Cobden a 30 second head-start.

EXPLORER VIEW

After the release of
our gushy Centenary camp report a week ago, we were inundated with literally one email.

Apparently, our report didn't bear any recognition to what actually happened, so Ollie Hibbs is going to set us straight!

The unofficial leader of Marple Explorers tells us pretty much exactly what he did for the whole weekend - including his favourite bit where he was chased by a pack of Cubs who wanted his shoes and socks!? Read on...

COBDEN TAKE TO THE WATER

Cobden had some fun on Thursday night with a Canoeing session that almost ended in a few of them getting the badge.

"When the leaders arrived the Scouts were all raring to go, and despite the gates being locked, one Scout had even managed to get wet already!

The canoes were taken out, with each Scout trying to claim a boat for themselves - they obviously knew that we were 12 canoes short!

CENTENARY REPORT IN

Our authors have been feverishly writing for the last two weeks, and having fianlly had the last few words passed by our legal team, we're ready to unleash the full gooey report!

"Space was at a premium as over 3,000 Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Leaders, Cubs and Beavers were crammed into Linnet Clough for the celebration of Scouting's centenary!

It was the biggest camp in the UK, and 1st Marple alone had over 200 people involved in Scouting up at the camp-site at some point over the long-weekend!

EASTER CAMP SUCCESS

You may have read it in News From the Scout Hut, but that was the censored version!

We now have it online in its full glory - read about the bits that Aunty Barbara didn't want you to know about!

"As customary we arrived on site and headed straight for Marple Scouts usual spot where the Explorers assisted the Scouts to pitch their patrol tents. This was until there was a shout of "foods ready" from the Explorer Camp and the Scouts and their leaders were left to finish the job.

We sat and watched the mass exodus of Explorers, Rangers and Network as they went for a late evening walk!
